End of Mpi104

This course has really been good and interesting. It has improved my knowledge about the internet a whole lot more. I would know how alot of things work but i had no idea about the technicality. Using blogger has been really fun, playing around with the html and fixing it up & it was a really simple way communicating all our work to damien. Flickr was used to upload and share images with classmates, i really like this website and love searching for images on it. Delicious was used to store website that you wanted saved on the internet, i didnt use this website as much as i should have because i didnt really have anything i wanted to save. It was really handy in keeping the links to everyones blog in my class though. In this class we learnt about making websites with html and got into the technical stuff including CSS, RSS & FTP.We joined a website called technorati which keeps track of everyones blog and tells you as a rss page when everyones blog has been updated. It was interesting to see your ranking aswell.

At the end we made our own websites which was the best part.

I cant believe its the end of the term already hopefully everythings gone well. I learnt alot from this class & enjoyed it heaps, thankyou damien.

Counters & RSS

Counters + RSS

Yaay aparantly 1024 people have looked on my profile according to my counter...NOT! haha it proves you cant trust the number of hits on websites.

Anyways RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication. It is a webfeed used to constantly update the data that reaches people over the interenet. e.g the amount of peers for a torrent you may be downloading this program is dependant on RSS. You can also subscribe to certain things including podcasts and blogs and the rss will notify the user that something has been updated or changed.

Google Reader is a place where users can subscribe to different feeds and be told when there is new things added. You can share your files on google reader and also download all the pages and also be able to view them offline which is a pretty handy feature!

Technorati is a website that is dedicated to blogs only, You can get your ranking & easily see what your friends have been doing on their blogger pages. It is different to google because it searches blog pages & not every page on the world wide web.

FTP – File Transfer Protocol

FTP – File Transfer Protocol.

FTP one of the most familiar method for transferring or copying files between computers over the internet.

It is most commonly used for transferring files including Mp3’s, Movies, programs & E-Books using torrent files.

A risk of transferring ftp files is that its sending data over the internet can put you in a position of your files getting violated by others if they know how.
